The 33-year-old actress Naya Rivera went missing while swimming Wednesday on Lake Piru in Southern California. According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Rivera rented a pontoon boat at about 1 p.m. for her and a 4-year-old son to take out onto Lake Piru, Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Eric Buschow said.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Department officials launched a search for the Glee alumna after her 4-year-old son was found alone on a boat in the lake Wednesday afternoon. Rescuers will resume their search Thursday morning. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said search efforts will resume “at first light” and called it a possible drowning.

According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Rivera rented the boat at about 1 PM. Around 3 hours later, another boater noticed the child in the boat by himself. The child was said to be unharmed, the boy told authorities that he and Rivera had been swimming, his mom jumped in the water but did not come back up to the boat. 











“There’s a lot of challenges in a reservoir this size, at times with visibility,” Capt. Eric Buschow, of the sheriff’s department, said. “I don’t have details yet as to the depth of the area where the boat was found or what conditions they’re encountering out there.”

Rivera Best known for her role as Santana Lopez on the popular Fox dramedy Glee, Rivera stars in Step Up High Water, which started on YouTube and was recently picked up for a second season by Starz.
