In this era, to live with diabetes seems to be among one of the most followed trends. Diabetes is a disorder that occurs when the blood glucose or sugar level gets higher than optimum level. Blood glucose is the vital source of energy and it comes from food which we eat. Insulin is the hormone which is secreted by pancreas. It helps glucose to get in to the cells of our body so that they can acquire the required energy. When our body fails to make enough insulin, glucose is forced to stay in to the blood. It does not reach in to the body cells, making them unable to get energy. Acquiring too much glucose in the blood causes diabetes. Although diabetes has no cure, yet we can manage it through our diet.

Diabetes has two types

  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes

Fatty fish

Fatty fish is one of the healthiest food which can be used in diabetic disorder. It is a great source of Omega-3 fatty acid and high quality protein. Omega-3 fatty acid is renowned unsaturated fat. And a diabetic patient can get enough fat from fish. This can also reduce inflammation and lower the risk of heart diseases.





Plain whole-milk and yogurt

Milk and yogurt both have naturally occurring sugar known as lactose.  A container of fat free plain yogurt gives us carbohydrates (lactose), which is absorbed quickly by body. Lactose immediately gives a blood sugar spike. On the other hand, whole milk yogurt has capability to control blood sugar spike. It also takes long time in absorption resulting in retention of energy. It gives prolonged energy and keeps its consumer full till very long. Try it on toast!

Cucumber

Cucumbers have reasonable amount of fibers and water which make them a pleased part of large meal. They are just like a “free food” as they do not have carbohydrates insulin. They act great for adding crunch in salad!

Leafy greens

Nuts are not only mouth-watering, rather they are also nutritious. It contains a digestible amount of carbs and fibers. Regular consumption of nuts reduce inflammation and lower blood sugar level. It can also help in lost weight, which leads to obesity in type 2 diabetes. Eat adequate amount of the mixture of all nuts in breakfast.
