Columbia Pictures on Thursday has released the first trailer for the upcoming movie Charlie’s Angels, a continuation of the iconic franchise directed by Elizabeth Banks, and this 2019 reboot has everything you would want in a blockbuster: Kristen Stewart elbowing a man in the face, Noah Centineo as a “handsome nerd,” a dance sequence, lots of explosions, a horse whip, many wigs, and a tercet by Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey, and Ariana Grande.
When Elizabeth Banks set out to make a Charlie’s Angels movie for the modern era, she wanted a lead actress with a unique blend of talent, notoriety and individuality who could help carry the iconic property in a new direction. Banks, who directed, produced and wrote the film’s screenplay, in addition to playing an important supporting character, says she found all of that in star Kristen Stewart.
“Charlie’s Angels,” based on the TV series, is the third installment in the film franchise following 2000’s “Charlie’s Angels” and 2003’s “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” with Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu. Kristen Stewart and Ella Balinska are Sabina and Jane, seasoned agents who are tasked with showing the doe-eyed newbie Elena (Naomi Scott) the ways of the work. Elena is the lead programmer on some tech that can be easily fashioned into a dangerous weapon and now the Angels must get their hands on what could become “every bad guy’s new toy.” The reboot also stars Noah Centineo, Sam Claflin and Patrick Stewart.“Charlie’s Angels” hits theaters on Nov. 15.
