Twin Peaks Actress Peggy Lipton Died Aged 72

Twin Peaks and The Mod Squad actress, singer and the mother of Rashida Jones, has died at 72 of cancer.The news was confirmed by her two daughters Rashida and Kidada Jones, from Lipton’s marriage to music producer Quincy Jones. She had been diagnosed with colon cancer in 2004.

“We are heartbroken that our beloved mother passed away from cancer today,” the statement said. “She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side. We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her.”

“We can’t put all of our feelings into words right now but we will say: Peggy was, and will always be our beacon of light, both in this world and beyond. She will always be a part of us.”

Hollywood stars Helen Hunt, Kathy Griffin and Get Shorty star Steven Weber all paid tribute to the late actress.
Peggy Lipton won a Golden Globe and was Emmy-nominated four times for her role as flower child Julie Barnes in “The Mod Squad,”. Lipton became a fashion icon for her hippie outfits on the show, which featured three hip undercover cops, “One black, one white, one blonde,” as the marketing campaign described.

After a long break to raise her daughters, she returned to acting on David Lynch’s original “Twin Peaks” series, on which she played Norma Jennings, the owner of the Double R Diner. She reprised her role in the recent revival of the series.

In recent years Lipton watched daughter Rashida Jones, 43, become a successful actress, with roles on series including “The Office.” Daughter Kidada Jones, 45, is an actress, model and fashion designer.
