Google Has Announced The Glass Enterprise Edition 2
Google has announced a new version of its Augmented Reality Glass headset, dubbed Glass Enterprise Edition 2 an official Google product instead of an experiment and costs $999, although, like its predecessor, it’s not being sold directly to consumers.

In a blog post this morning announcing the update explains that the smart glasses are now powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR 1 chipset, an improved camera, a USB-C port for faster charging, and a variety of other updates. That computing platform is specifically designed for AR and virtual reality (VR) headsets. The first-generation Glass Enterprise Edition ran on Intel Atom processors and will also run on a newer version of Android, which includes support for Android Enterprise Mobile Device Management.

Google is also adding new safety frames to Glass in partnership with Smith Optics, plus a bigger battery and other upgraded components. The glasses actually come in two parts: Google makes the right side of the glasses–the side that holds all the technology–and Smith Optics makes the safety glasses that the Glass attaches to. This makes it possible for multiple employees to own their own pair of safety glasses and share one Glass.

"Glass is a hands-free device for smarter and faster hands-on work," Glass project lead Jay Kothari noted in a promotional video. "It provides the information that an employee needs in the periphery of their line of sight, so it doesn't come in the way of their actual work environment."

Many other companies are also working on business-focused augmented reality glasses, including Microsoft, Vuzix, and Epson.
