Facebook has given additional information on the data breach it uncovered a month ago. By abusing a system vulnerability, hackers were able to steal access tokens from those 30 million users. The organization is additionally notifying those affected. You can check if your account was impacted by this security issue through this link.

To check if your Facebook account impacted by this security issue or not. Follow these steps.
  • Log in to your facebook account.

  • Scroll down to “Is my Facebook account impacted by this security issue?“. Here you will see whether your account was impacted or not.

The 30 million users fall into 3 categories. For 15 million people, attackers accessed two sets of information – name and contact details. For 14 million people, the attackers accessed name, contact and all type of details people had on their profiles. This included username, gender, locale/language, relationship status, religion, hometown, self-reported current city, birthdate, device types used to access Facebook, education, work, last 10 places they checked into or were tagged in, website, people or Pages they follow, and the 15 most recent searches. For 1 million people, the attackers did not access any information.

In the coming days, Facebook will send customized messages to the 30 million people affected to explain what information the attackers might have accessed.
